The List G Barristers’ membership is delighted to introduce and congratulate our new members Haley Aprile, Leo Freckelton, Rebecca Kelly, Alison Martyn, Declan Murphy and Amy Surkis. We welcome them to the List G Barristers’ tradition of professional excellence and expertise in commercial and public law.

Haley Aprile

Haley Aprile is an experienced commercial litigator with broad regulatory, commercial and public law expertise. Before coming to the Bar, Haley practised extensively as a solicitor at Corrs in Melbourne, where she was most recently a Special Counsel in the commercial litigation group. During her time as a solicitor, Haley regularly appeared as advocate in various courts and tribunals. She also undertook a secondment as in-house counsel and welcomes direct briefs from in-house counsel.

Leo Freckelton

Leo Freckelton practises in all areas of commercial and regulatory law. Leo's principal experience includes corporate insolvency and restructuring, banking litigation, contractual disputes, class actions, equity and trusts, and regulatory matters. Before coming to the Bar, Leo was a senior associate in Norton Rose Fulbright's Financial Restructuring and Insolvency team. At NRF, Leo acted for insolvency practitioners, directors, major banks and investment funds in significant and complex corporate insolvencies. Leo is a former associate to the Honourable Justice Sloss in the Commercial Court of the Supreme Court of Victoria.

Rebecca Kelly

Rebecca Kelly practises in commercial and regulatory law. Rebecca is also experienced in telecommunications matters. Before joining the Bar, Rebecca worked as in-house counsel at Telstra for more than 9 years and as a solicitor in commercial litigation. She began her career as a Legal Officer, conducting criminal prosecutions, at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in Brisbane.

Alison Martyn

Alison Martyn practises in commercial and public law. Alison comes to the Bar with a broad range of litigation experience. Alison was a Senior Associate at Herbert Smith Freehills where she specialised in class actions and other large-scale disputes for clients in the government, financial services and life sciences sectors. Alison also previously worked as a solicitor at Clayton Utz in the litigation team and at the UK Government Legal Department in the public law litigation division (Australian qualified). She was an Associate to the Honourable Justice John Griffiths at the Federal Court of Australia.

Declan Murphy

Declan Murphy practises in all areas of employment and industrial relations law. He also has significant experience in discrimination law and public law. Before coming to the Bar, Declan was a Senior Associate in Maurice Blackburn’s employment and industrial law team. While there Declan ran a range of complex litigation focusing in particular on trade union disputes, industrial action matters, discrimination law, sexual harassment and employee misconduct.

Amy Surkis

Amy Surkis is a general commercial litigator with a scientific background and over 10 years' experience. Amy has particular expertise in intellectual property litigation and has extensive experience leading complex patent litigation matters in the Federal Court of Australia, both at first instance and appeal. Prior to coming to the bar, Amy was a Senior Associate in MinterEllison’s disputes resolution team.
