The members of List G Barristers warmly congratulate Dr Kristine Hanscombe SC who was awarded the Public Interest/ Justice Innovation Award at the 4th Annual Victorian Bar Pro Bono Awards on 14 May 2013.

Dr Hanscombe, together with Mr Herman Borenstein SC and Mr Lachlan Armstrong, was presented with the award for her work in two cases which originated in the Federal Court of Australia and were recently appealed to the High Court of Australia, by the Commonwealth Government.

The cases were brought by and on behalf of two intellectually disabled men who each worked in an Australian Disability Enterprise (ADE). The proceedings stemmed from complaints that, by using a particular tool to measure their work contribution, and ultimately to assess their wages, the ADEs in which the Applicants worked, discriminated against them in their employment.
