Thomas has acted in multiple long-running class actions, across multiple jurisdictions. He also has experience acting for clients in arbitrations. He is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (ACIArb) and has been appointed and acted as arbitrator.
Immediately prior to coming to the Bar, he was Associate to Justice Vickery, then Judge in charge of the Technology, Engineering and Construction List in the Supreme Court of Victoria.
Previously, Thomas worked in London as an Associate in Herbert Smith’s Banking Litigation group (now Herbert Smith Freehills) and as a transactional lawyer in Allen & Overy’s Global Loans group. Whilst in London, Thomas spent a year working for a client involved in a high-profile international corruption investigation involving the United Nations Oil for Food program for Iraq, and he maintains an interest in the AML/CFT area. He completed articles and worked as a solicitor in Corrs Chambers Westgarth’s Litigation group in Melbourne.
Thomas graduated with first class honours degrees in both Laws and Arts from the University of Tasmania. He also received a number of academic prizes.
