Liam Brown has a broad commercial and public law practice

Liam regularly advises and appears at all levels of the court hierarchy.

Before coming to the Bar, Liam worked in the Department of Premier and Cabinet where he led a team of lawyers advising the Premier and executive government on a range of matters including public and other inquiries, legislative and policy initiatives, and litigation involving the State.  A key aspect of Liam’s position with the Department involved instructing the Victorian Government Solicitor for the State’s appearance at the Royal Commission into the 2009 bushfires.

Before joining the Department, Liam was Senior Associate to Justice Hargrave of the Supreme Court of Victoria and an articled clerk and solicitor in the dispute resolution group of Mallesons Stephen Jaques (now King & Wood Mallesons).  Liam is soon to complete a masters degree at the University of Melbourne where he also taught Principles of Public Law for three years.  Liam is also a reporter for the Victorian Reports.

Liam obtained a physiotherapy degree with honours from the University of Melbourne in 1997.  In 2003 he graduated from La Trobe University with first class honours in Law and the Supreme Court Prize, the Supreme Court Exhibition and the D.M. Myers University Medal.
