Liam has a broad practice in commercial, public and tort law.

In 2018, Liam was appointed Crown Counsel for Victoria. In that role he provided advice to, and represented, the Attorney-General and various other public officials and bodies. In July 2024, Liam returned to the private Bar.

As Crown Counsel, Liam appeared in a number of significant matters for State parties over recent years. These cases include appearing as lead counsel for the DPP in the Smith appeal in the High Court involving a challenge to the use of intermediaries in sexual abuse cases, the Minogue litigation challenging drug testing and strip searching in the prison system, Abdulrahim challenging the lawfulness of detention following parole cancellation, the Veronica Nelson Inquest following a death in custody, many challenges to the government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Hotel Quarantine Class Action, the class actions following the 2009 Bushfires, the Royal Commission into the Management of Police Informers, and the Child Sex Abuse Royal Commission.
