Kate has appeared in numerous class actions and multi-party proceedings, including the Bonsoy product liability class action (with David Curtain QC and Lisa Nichols), the Hepatitis C negligence class action (with Rachel Doyle SC and Rowena Orr) and the Centro shareholders class action (with Julian Burnside QC and Rachel Doyle SC).
She has acted for the Salvation Army (Southern Territory) in the Royal Commission into Institutional Response to Child Sexual Abuse (with Dr Matt Collins QC). She currently represents United Voice in the Fair Work Commission's review of weekend penalty rates in modern awards (with Craig Dowling), and is acting for the MFB and CFA in the modern awards review of the Fire Fighting Industry Award (with Steve Moore QC) and for the ACTU in its application for domestic violence leave in all modern awards.
She has appeared in employment law matters involving employee/contractor disputes, underpayment claims, and disciplinary matters. In trade practices and consumer law, she regularly acts in matters involving financial services, corporations law, and professional negligence, as well as personal injury claims arising from asbestos exposure.
Prior to coming to the Bar, Kate was a solicitor at Slater & Gordon practising in commercial litigation. In 2005 and 2006, she was Associate to Justice Hargrave in the Supreme Court of Victoria. Kate graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2006 with degrees in Law (with Honours) and Arts. In May 2013 she graduated from New York University with a Masters of Law, where she specialised in class actions and complex litigation.
