Jarrad Mathie practises in commercial, regulatory and public law.

Since coming to the Bar, he has been briefed to appear, advise and draft documents in a variety of matters, including:

  • disputes relating to the provision of goods and services (contract, Australian Consumer Law etc, both led and unled);
  • civil penalty proceedings brought by ASIC against a major bank;
  • a large-scale domestic arbitration;
  • shareholder oppression disputes;
  • trusts and equity disputes;
  • compulsory examinations;
  • corporate insolvency-related matters;
  • advice on regulatory obligations under financial services, banking and AML/CTF laws (unled);
  • proceedings and adjudications under the Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act 2002 (Vic) (unled); and
  • an application for judicial review (VRRQ v Minister for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs [2025] FCA 983).

Jarrad has particular experience in regulatory matters concerning financial services and consumer credit, having acted for the regulator, licensees and individuals in relation to civil penalty proceedings, investigations (including examinations), and administrative decisions.

Prior to coming to the Bar, Jarrad was a senior associate at Clayton Utz where he worked on a broad range of commercial disputes across industries and sectors including telecommunications, healthcare, waste management and recycling, construction, forestry, tertiary education and retail.

Jarrad is reading with Damien McAloon and his senior mentor is Paul Liondas KC.
