James practices in commercial and regulatory law.

James' areas of expertise include commercial, construction, competition and consumer law. He also has public law experience acting for and against government regulators.

Before coming to the Bar, James was an Associate to Justice Maxwell, President of the Court of Appeal. Prior to this role, he was a solicitor in the disputes practice of Herbert Smith Freehills. During his time at HSF, James worked on large and complex commercial disputes, as well as the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System.

James holds a Juris Doctor and Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Melbourne. He read with Premala Thiagarajan and his senior mentor was Elizabeth Bennett SC (as her Honour then was).
