Liz has appeared in complex commercial cases, including the recent Air Cargo class action and the Oz Minerals class action (junior to Michael O’Bryan QC) in the Federal Court. She has been involved in a range of commercial proceedings for the State of Victoria in relation to registered training organisations (both unled, and as junior to Mark Moshinsky QC and Peter Gray QC).
In her regulatory practice, she has appeared unled for ASIC in consumer credit code prosecutions (for example Make it Mine v ASIC[2015] FCA 393 and [2015] FCA 1255), and has advised or appeared for the ACCC in enforcement proceedings concerning the misuse of market power. She has also acted for other State-based regulatory authorities, including the Legal Services Commissioner and the Secretary to the Department of Justice.
Her public law practice includes merits and judicial review of administrative decisions and actions (for example CES-Queen (Vic) Pty Ltd v Thomas [2014] VSC 602 junior to Peter Gray QC) and a strong discrimination law practice (for example CYC v Cobaw [2014] VSCA 75 (junior to Debbie Mortimer QC), and Scandolera v State of Victoria [2015] FCA 145 junior to Rowena Orr QC). Liz also has significant experience in disputes concerning legal professional privilege, public interest immunity and security for costs.
Prior to coming to the Bar, Liz was a Senior Associate in litigation at Allens, and an associate in the Victorian Court of Appeal. She has also had experience working in-house at a major Australian bank.
