Julia Watson has a broad commercial and public law practice

Julia advises and appears in a range of matters including public law, commercial, industrial, discrimination, freedom of information and criminal matters. Julia is a Senior Fellow and Sessional Lecturer at Melbourne Law School at the University of Melbourne, where she has taught: Evidence and Proof (2014, 2015, 2016) Legal Ethics (2014) Administrative Law (2009, 2014) and Constitutional Law (2007, 2008).

Before joining the Victorian Bar, Julia was: Associate to the Honourable Justice Gageler, High Court of Australia (2013-14) Associate to the Honourable Chief Justice French, High Court of Australia (2012-13) Associate to the Honourable Justice Kenny, Federal Court of Australia (2012) Senior Solicitor, FOI Litigation Unit, Victoria Police (seconded from the Victorian Government Solicitor’s Office) (2011) Solicitor, Public Law, Victorian Government Solicitor’s Office (2008-9) Research Assistant to the Victorian Solicitor-General, Pamela Tate SC (2006-7).

Julia also completed a Master of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley, where she studied economic theory and statistical modelling, and during which she completed fellowships at the New York Civil Liberties Union and at the Center for Justice and Accountability in San Francisco.
