Practice Profile
Melanie has appeared in the Federal, Supreme, County and Magistrates’ Courts and at VCAT in a variety of legal areas, with a focus on commercial and administrative law. She has also appeared in commercial mediations. Melanie has completed advice and pleadings work across a broad spectrum of law: fiduciary obligations, contract, trust matters, directors’ duties, shareholder rights and remedies, mortgagee duties, insolvency, administrative law, intellectual property, negligence, defamation and representative proceedings.
Melanie has a particular interest in representative proceedings and is currently briefed in the Kilmore East Bushfire class action, and the Sigma Pharmaceuticals shareholder class action.
Prior to joining the Bar, Melanie undertook a Bachelor of Science and Laws, and worked as a scientific researcher, predominantly in synthetic organic chemistry, and is published in that area.
Melanie was then appointed Senior Associate to the Honourable Justice Pagone, Judge in Charge of the Commercial Court of the Supreme Court of Victoria and subsequently to the Honourable Justice Davies, also a Judge of the Commercial Court of the Supreme Court.
She read with Lachlan Armstrong and her senior mentor is Helen Symon SC. Melanie is currently undertaking a Masters of Law at Melbourne University.
She is the Secretary-General of the International Commission of Jurists (Victoria), and a member of the Commercial Bar Association and the Tax Bar Association.
